Spring cleaning of a different kind

I came home from wintery snow country to temperatures close to 90 degrees. It’s spring here. It’s time to stir things up and clean out the grime. So don’t fight me on this. Just go along:

1. You are a nice person. You are doing your best. You are a good person. If you’re not willing to say so on your own behalf, I will.

2. You deserve really, really nice things in your life. It’s true.

3. Those things include:

a. Good, nutritious food
b. A happy romantic relationship
c. Good friends who love you exactly as you are, and vice versa
d. Plenty of time for everything that is important to you
e. A heathy, relaxed body
f. A peaceful, easy mind
g. Daily recreation, whether it’s a walk or sitting in the sun reading a book
h. Success in the form of finding and doing the work that you love, and getting paid for it
i. Success in the form of making the kind of impact in the world that matters to you
j. Self-love–the ability to look at yourself in the mirror and feel total affection and compassion for the person you see

What else? We’re making a list here for a reason. Sometimes until you actually write out the elements you’re going for, you don’t really have a picture in mind. And I want us all to have a picture. Because then we have something real to focus on, rather than this vague notion that life would be good if . . .

So add to my list, please. Then let’s see what we can do with it.

(P.S. Lost discussion to come.)

Daily dose of nature, whether it’s a spot of gardening, a walk, or feeding the squirrels. We need to know where we “fit” in the scheme of things, and that does it (at least for me) every time, even if I only have time for a 5 minute nature dose. I guess this could count as recreation, but the focus is different.

    k. Good Hair. Life is always better with good hair. That’s why people shave their head in rehab. They need fresh hair restarts.

  3. Deborah Says:

Is that why they shave their heads?? I thought it was because a hair analysis will show up every drug they have ingested for as long as they have had that hair, the longer the hair, the longer the trail…

This is a really nice post Robin and I needed it today. Thanks. I would add ‘a loving/loved pet.’

    Ahhh . . . I love these!

See, here’s my plan: I’m going to start a new club, like our Tuesday Book Club, where we get to report the nice things we did for ourselves every week. Maybe we’ll do that on Fridays?

Then for an extra bit of ahhhh, head over to Seven Impossible Things Before Breakfast on the weekends (link is on the right here), where they’re doing a lovely roundup of the good things that happened to each of us during the week.

If that doesn’t lift your spirits and help you transition from winter to spring, don’t know what will.

Also, I would add “A Death Star to live in.”

Do three things every day that give you pleasure. Write a thinking-of-you note, listen to classical music at full blast, surprise someone, have a glass of champagne for no reason except why the hell not? Etc.
